We have been a Lake Michigan sport fishing charter service based out of the port of Muskegon for over 35 years with a long family tradition.    I am the second generation Owner/Captain of Margie J Sport Fishing Charters which my Dad started in 1970. Margie is my mom and Jim is my dad hence the name Margie J. We are the longest running charter service in Muskegon and one of the longest in the state.  I grew up being the first mate for my Dad and obtained my Coast Guard Captain’s license at the age of 18 which at that time was the youngest in the state. My dad and I have been a great team for many years and now I'm lucky enough to have my own son who is the first mate on the Margie J.  He also wants to be a Captain when he turns 18. I have daughter who also  wants to be my first mate.  She is only 8 but already shows signs of being a great fishergirl.

We have three generations catching fish for you out of the great port of Muskegon, Michigan.

I am the President of the Muskegon Charter Boat Association and the Muskegon Port Captain for the Michigan Charter Boat Association.  My memberships also include the National Charter Boat Association, the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Council, and the Michigan Steelhead and Salmon Fisherman's Association.   I am on the Board of Directors of the Muskegon Sportfishing Association and a member of the Michigan Anglers Association,  both local organizations dedicated to preserving and protecting our fisheries for our children.

I am also very lucky to have an occupation that allows me to charter full time and most importantly play a role in educating our youth.  When I am not fishing, I am a teacher and have been for many  years.  However, it doesn't take long for someone walking into my classroom to realize I am a fisherman.  The first clue is the 600+ salmon I have growing in aquariums in my classroom.  I raise and release Chinook salmon yearly, educating our youth using the salmon as a theme to teach my curriculum and to create  future stewards of our environment to protect and enjoy the outdoors.
Make sure you visit our Salmon Web Cam.

We have had several newspaper articles written about us over the years starting in 1968.    I also have news coverage highlighting the salmon project I teach my students.  My family and I are very proud of them.  Please take some time and read them.
